I was lucky to hear Markus and his bandmates this year at the annual MITY jazz festival at Macalester College. Here, he whips out a quick solo for his second combo.
Sadly, the kids wanted to leave as soon as Markus played. And this year, the Twin Cities jazz festival was cut due to the ailing economy, so we won’t get to see them play at the festival this year. And that’s too bad - because they were excellent this year - best I’ve heard in the last 3 years.
Lars and Brita each went to Camp Kici Yapi today, while Leif started a week-long ceramics class. The weather was super hot and I needed to get out of the house to run errands.
No one wanted to go with me. (The kids HATE going to buy compute supplies.) So I bribed the kids with the promise of the best deal in all of Minneapolis - $0.39 ice cream cones at Milio’s.
Tuesday was Spanish graduation.

Lars was first. He tried his best to sing the Spanish songs and he answered a couple of questions in Spanish. The Spanish road is hard for Lars, but I am hoping this exposure will make learning Spanish easier later in life.

Brita has an easier time learning Spanish and the teacher seemed much more enthusiastic in Brita’s room.
I am proud of them both and hope languages come much easier for both of them.
Last year my parent’s boat was hit by a tornado.
‘A tornado?’ you say.
Yes. After a strong lightning storm, my parents found their 25 foot pontoon boat and 3,000 lb. lift upside down in the Wisconsin river. The lift and boat were lifted over the dock and the actual dock was undamaged. The insurance company hired a tow truck to pull it out of the water.
This was the first weekend that they had their new boat. We sailed out for the usual destinations: Mullins Cheese for ice cream and the Tiki Bar for swimming and drinks. We all had a fantastic day.
The holiday weekend is here and we packed up and headed to grandpa’s to kick off the season. Our first activity of the afternoon was fishing on the dock. Lars caught two huge catfish and Brita had a fish snap her line before it was time to pack up for the day.
The kids are so excited that they plan to start again tomorrow (bright and early) with Grandpa at 6am.
