A thought on British keyboards
British keyboards are funny. They have moved the @ down from the number 2, and put it on a special key next to the enter key. Instead of two keys from L to Enter, there are 3 keys…which I invariably hit while typing, often in combination with Enter. Here’s the funny thing, though. Above the number 3 is the sign for British Pound, while above the number 4 sits the good old US Dollar...

Some random thoughts on London (day 2)
Walking down the street is a pain in London.  Sure it’s bad because you have to look the wrong way before crossing the street.  But there are signs at every intersection on the ground that say ‘Look right’ or ‘Look left’.  And anyway, I wait for other people to cross and just follow them across and I am motivated by fear of dieing to look the right way.  What I find...

Ending my day with a pint and fish & chips
Before leaving Minneapolis, my brother-in-law told me to be sure to get a pint while in England. After going into and leaving Ye Olde Cheese Shoppe (rebuilt in 1697…and not changed much after that), I headed down the street to The Old Bell, opened originally in 1873. It looks to be the very definition of the corner pub. I told the bartender that I’d never had ale before, so she gave me...

Arrived Heathrow
The flight was great. I moved through security quickly, got my bags and made my way to the Underground, where I hit my first snag of the day. The machine would not read my Visa card, which is strange. I also have no idea how the ticketing works as I tried to use the ticket at the gate and was then waved through the disabled gate by an amused agent. My first impressions of the Tube cars are that...

Some cool things about flying business class from...
There are many advantages to flying business class on International flights. The following list is compiled to answer questions my kids might ask. Every person has a personal television screen. The television plays movies, TV shows, and games. Unfortunately, I had to read and sleep on this flight, so I didn’t get a chance to try it out. The food is great. We started with a lobster pate on...

I think I am starting a project in London on...
I have been writing a proposal for the last week solid in hoped of landing this London project.  Hopefully after today, the client will accept and I can start preparing.  Otherwise, I have a worthless $900 ticket or more rewriting to do.

The meaning of uncle
Today I was working with my instant messanger on, when I got a query from my nephew in high school.  He had written his paper at home in Open Office, but then had forgotten to convert it to a Word document before coming to school.  Was there any way I could help him open the paper? I referred him back to Google Docs, which worked.  He was able to open the paper and continue working. And that, to...

Around the lake (twice)
Last night was an amazing night for me.  I asked Brita to ride her bike around Lake Calhoun, which is about 3 miles.  Her previous longest ride was in a neighborhood church parking lot where she ended the ride by falling. It was an amazing ride. Brita made it all the way around the lake without falling.  Along the way, she went over bumps and learned to control the bicycle as I had never seen her...

Conferences
Last night Gretchen and I attended this year’s initial conferences for Lars and Brita.  We all walked over to school together as a family.  The school had care provided during conferences and Gretchen had scheduled them together. I am happy to report that the news from the teachers was excellent.  Lars’ teacher called him a math whiz and said that he is a friend to everyone in class. ...
