Heard while riding the Brown Line in Chicago: ‘You like that song too? I’m about to get it online!’

Burned my thumb on a scalding hot Pop Tart. A deliciously painful way to end a long day.
Pulling into Midway on the Orange Line. Looking forward to getting back to my family. Hope to nap on the plane.

Kikugawa Restaurant →
The whole family including my sister-in-law and nephew from Seattle and my local brother and sister-in-law and newphews and kids went to Kikugawa to celebrate my wife’s birthday. The food was excellent and we all had a great time. I love Kikugawa.
Last day at this client
Today is my last day working in Minneapolis for at least a couple of weeks. I have to continue training the client today and wrap up documentation. I have mixed feelings about the application I developed for them, mainly in relation to the speed the data loads. That’s what happens when testing and flexibility is limited. So what did I learn here? Always look at the size of the tables before...
Documentation, documentation
Today is documentation day on the project. I am about 30% through the JavaScript and I have to get to 70% today. I’ll wait until tomorrow to draw the Visio diagrams. Hopefully nobody will see anything wrong in the next couple of days and I’ll be able to kick out the jams. It’s pretty boring work, but I’ll take it.
Musac
Who invented Musac and why? I’ll never understand who thought we had the need for non-descript, quasi-jazz-orchestral music to come from disembodied speakers. Maybe it’s a generational thing. It is an aesthetic that just doesn’t translate for me - like big hair, lot’s of makeup, soft porn, pro wrestling (at least the free stuff I see on TV), giant boobs, Applebee’s,...
The early day has got me beat...one more to go
Lot’s to do tonight. Get the expenses done and get the cat boxes changed, charge the camera and download the movies onto my laptop. Back at it tomorrow morning, although I can sleep in at least 1/2 hour later. That’ll be good.
Thinking about the end of the project
What’s left for the rest of the week? For the client, I have to finish the code documentation and the Visio documentation, prepare for ASP/Windows security training, perform security training, and train the client how to code by making some minor upgrades. I personally have to pack up and clean my cube, clean up my machine, pack up the sample code and figure out what to do with Assembla. For...
Lars: Dad...can kids go bald?
Me: Well...they can. But it's usually a sign of something really wrong.
Lars: I don't WANT to be bald!
Me: What about Grandpa Bob and Grandpa Bill? They're bald.
Lars: Not UGLY bald though.
The day began with the kids and ended with...
Had a great time with the kids at the Minnesota Children’s Museum today. When we got home, we had fix the washing machine vent before pushing it back into the cabinet. It was such a tight fit we had to call Lars in to help us. We had to send Lars back behind the machine while I pushed it in so he could tell us if there were any problems. Later he told me ‘I always wondered what was...
This machine is my friend.
– Bond-trader said to me, referring to the office Starbucks machine. Starbucks machine, I will miss you when I leave. You kept me going when nothing else could.
Saw Steve Koester and Two Dark Birds tonight
Also saw Mike Wisti. I had forgotten how great live music was. I cannot remember the last time I set foot in First Avenue. At the same time, it was kind of like a high school reunion where you see people with a fresh set of eyes. Mike seemed the same, but life was starting to intrude on Steve and I can’t help but wonder if this is his last tour before fatherhood takes hold permanently. ...
