End of week birthday celebration
We celebrated Brita’s birthday with Auntalie, Uncle Stefan, Markus and Tobias.  We have several traditions for birthdays, including funny hats and a selection of unusual ice creams and/or sorbets. The day concluded with the younger kids playing the Wii and the ‘older kids’ playing games of Apples to Apples and Bananagrams. After the party, we all headed off to a hotel to...

Parent Involvement Day
I went to school today to see Lars and Brita have their Parent Involvement Day celebrations.  Brita’s kindergarten class was up last, where she played maracas. Lars was excited for me to see a couple of things.  First, he wanted me to see his portrait of Martin Luther King.  This was the first time his artwork was hung in the main hall. I also got a chance to stop by class and see the...

WatchWatch
Brita played lead instruments during the Parent Involvement Day celebrations today.  She was keeping it a secret as a surprise for me when I came.  I was very proud of her performance.

Gretchen...

The Gruffalo
We went to see the Gruffalo stage show with the kids last night at the Minneapolis Children’s Theater.  The show stars a mouse that goes into the deep dark wood and has to outwit a fox, an owl, a snake and a Gruffalo in order to find a nut.  Of all the characters, the snake stood out as the truly entertaining character of the play. After the play, the kids stopped for a picture in front of...

Flat Stanley at the Sears Tower
Flat Stanley accompanied me to the Sears Tower today.  On a clear day, you can see Illinois, Wisconsin, Indiana and Michigan from the observation deck. We only had a short time at lunch. We had to get back to work so Flat Stanley could pack up for Europe. He’s headed off to London and Spain later today. I look forward to seeing pictures of his new adventures.
