The day after Thanksgiving was warm and I wanted to get the kids out to see the Wausau. Even though the air was crisp, we headed out to the Dells of the Eau Claire, an incredible county park 15 miles west of Wausau.
The kids loved the spectacular falls and the hike along the river, climbing rocks and seeing the sites, much as I loved hiking it as a kid. We were fortunate that Grandma and cousin Adyn came along for the adventure. When you are that age, every rock tells a story, rounding every corner is an adventure, and the trails seem to go on forever.
The pleasures of childhood are much different than the pleasures of a parent - but no less fun. It was great to relive the sense of adventure and see the park again through the eyes of the kids.
We vowed that we would come back to camp there - it might be just the light camping experience we need to get us started. But this Thanksgiving was very memorable as the time my kids had a great taste of central-Wisconsin beauty.
