I went up to Kensington tonight to meet my wife’s Aunt and cousins, Steve and ML.
Aunt Nancy took me to a very nice dinner at a restaurant called Wodka. We ate and talked long into the evening about politics and religion. Then I got to go see their wonderful flat. We talked a bit more until I realized that it was very late. On top of that, I had a tube ride home and I still had to pick up my laundry from my friend’s house.
There was an awkward moment when leaving Nancy’s house when trying to plan the trip home. Doug had recommended a tube stop that presented me with two options: a long trip, or a shorter, but more complex trip. So I waffled…should I go this route or that route.
Suddenly I realized…I had never walked from the recommended tube stop to Doug’s. Even if I arrived, would I be able to find it? After 2 minutes of waffling…Barbican…no St. Paul’s…I’ll just do the circle…no I’ll transfer…I just decided to go back the way I came there.
Jump on at Gloucester Road - catch a Yellow Line or Green Line to Black Friars, and then walk the 10-15 minutes to Doug’s apartment.
There’s a lesson in this. The stops are often so close and the walks are so pleasant for me, it’s just best to stick to what I know (so I don’t get lost) and not put too much thought into complex Tube routes.
