The Read-a-thon was tonight. Leif read, Lars did homework and I played a game of chess. Then Brita and Gretchen returned home with books for everyone.
We headed out to the annual Halloween party at our local high school. There were games, a great magic show, and hot dogs. Lars went as a ninja, Brita as Hermione, and Leif went as Yoda.
We took a trip out to the Minnetonka Orchards today. We picked apples for the first time in years, walked the corn maze, ate some apple donuts and bought a pie. We listened to live music while the kids climbed on the toy train and wrestled on the hay pile. The day was beautiful and it was great to spend some time with the kids.
Lars has been on a roll lately, scoring a goals and moving the ball down the field. Yesterday he had one goal. It’s nice to see a good game of football on a crisp autumn day.
The kids started at school today. This is Leif’s first full day of school and Brita’s first day at upper campus. And Lars? Looks like he is still up to his old tricks.
Gretchen had an idea to take a bike ride to some restaurants on the other side of Lake Harriet. The kids were hungry by the time we stopped at Cafe Ena, but the service was friendly and the guacamole stopped any crankiness that was simmering beneath the hunger.
We dropped off Lars and Jack for a week at camp. After the bus left, we packed up the kids and went on a long bike ride.
As the day went on, the temperature rose to almost unbearable levels. Still, we had fun getting close to the cars that sped by.
The kids get ready for the boat parade and pose one last time before getting onto the boat. This is a rare picture with all the cousins (except the youngest twins) present in one spot.
