I was lucky to hear Markus and his bandmates this year at the annual MITY jazz festival at Macalester College. Here, he whips out a quick solo for his second combo. Sadly, the kids wanted to leave as soon as Markus played. And this year, the Twin Cities jazz festival was cut due to the ailing economy, so we won’t get to see them play at the festival this year. And that’s too bad - because they were excellent this year - best I’ve heard in the last 3 years.

Went to see Markus play in the South High School Pops concert tonight.  First the band played (wind), then the orchestra (strings), and then they played together. Highlights of the night included “Live and Let Die” (Paul McCartney), Kashmir (Led Zeppelin) and (believe it or not) “Lord of the Dance”.  All the kids fell asleep, but the adults were treated to a great show.
